World Hepatitis Day: Protecting Our Children Starts with Awareness

World Hepatitis Day, observed every year on July 28, raises awareness about viral hepatitis and encourages prevention, early testing, and timely treatment.

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by viruses such as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. Children can become infected through contaminated food or water (Hepatitis A), or from an infected mother at birth, contact with infected blood, or unsafe medical practices (especially Hepatitis B).

How Parents Can Protect Their Children

  • ๐Ÿ’‰ Ensure your child receives all recommended vaccinations, especially the Hepatitis B vaccine.
  • ๐Ÿงผ Encourage regular handwashing with soap and clean water.
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Provide safe, clean food and drinking water.
  • ๐Ÿฉบ Attend routine pediatric check-ups and seek medical care if your child develops symptoms such as yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice), dark urine, persistent fatigue, poor appetite, or abdominal pain.
  • ๐Ÿฉธ Avoid sharing personal items such as toothbrushes or razors that may come into contact with blood.

Key Message

Hepatitis is preventable, and early detection can save lives. Vaccination, good hygiene, and regular health checks are the best ways to protect your child and family.
