WORLD LUNG DAY
Protecting Little Lungs, Building Healthier Futures
World Lung Day, observed every September 25, is an opportunity to raise awareness about lung health and the importance of protecting our lungs from conditions that can affect breathing and overall wellbeing.
Childrenβs lungs are still developing, making them particularly vulnerable to respiratory infections, second-hand smoke, air pollution, allergies, and other environmental irritants. Conditions such as asthma, pneumonia and recurrent respiratory infections can affect a childβs breathing, sleep, activity and quality of life.
How Parents Can Protect Childrenβs Lung Health
- Keep children away from cigarette smoke and vaping.
- Reduce exposure to dust, strong fumes and indoor air pollution.
- Encourage regular handwashing to help prevent respiratory infections.
- Keep vaccinations up to date.
- Ensure children with asthma or other respiratory conditions receive regular medical care.
- Seek medical attention if a child develops persistent cough, wheezing, fast or difficult breathing, chest pain, or unusual tiredness.
Healthy lungs help children breathe, play, learn and grow. Letβs protect every childβs breath today and every day.
