ADHD Awareness Month
ADHD Awareness Month is observed every October to raise awareness about Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect a childβs attention, impulse control, and activity levels.
ADHD is not simply bad behaviour or a lack of discipline. Children with ADHD may have difficulty staying focused, sitting still, following instructions, organising tasks, or waiting their turn. Every childβs experience is different, and symptoms can affect learning, friendships, family life, and daily activities.
How Parents Can Support Children
- Recognise each childβs strengths and challenges.
- Establish consistent routines and clear instructions.
- Celebrate effort and progress, not just results.
- Work closely with teachers and healthcare professionals.
- Seek a professional assessment if difficulties persist and affect daily life.
Early identification, appropriate support, and understanding can help children with ADHD thrive. Avoid labelling or shaming a child for behaviours they may struggle to control.
